What Does “It Is Finished” Mean?
At the cross, Jesus declared that the work He came to accomplish had been completed.
“It is finished.”
The Greek word recorded in John 19:30 is τετέλεσται (tetelestai)—something brought to completion, fully accomplished. The perfect life had been lived. The sacrifice had been offered. The price for sin had been paid.
Our salvation rests upon the completed work of Jesus Christ.
Because of Christ, believers do not have to live under the weight of guilt, fear, regret, or the burden of trying to earn God’s love. The Gospel calls us to rest in Christ and live transformed by grace.
CompleteChrist accomplished the saving work the Father gave Him to do.
